Wisconsin Public Radio did a radio show last week that was supposed to be about ethanol production but ended up bending more towards pellets. Give it a listen here:

Buy Now, or Buy Later? |

The big question this year, as it is every year at this time. Do I go ahead and buy wood pellets for this fall, the 2008-09 burning season? Or, do I hold out? Will the price of pellets be either cheaper this fall, or at the least, not enough more expensive to warrant tying the money up for the summer. |

The Pellet Report |

Here is the current view of my pellet room. Eight stacks of 17 bags, plus four on the floor. The room is sure much more open than it was back in November. It has been hard to believe how fast winter has gone and how fast this room is emptied.
I have been meaning to get an update posted for a while now. But, I was immersed in a bathroom repair project. Then, I went straight from that into a two week long cold. So here I am again. |

I woke to a cold house. |

I have been out sick from work for the past few days with a bad cold. It never fails. No child may walk into this house sick without leaving something behind for me to catch. So, a couple days of fever and chills. This morning though, I was really hoping to be better. But no such luck. I woke up cold. I was thinking, 'oh god, is this fever ever going to end', when the wife showed up with coffee and to tell me "The fire's out." So it wasn't the fever, it was the fact the room was about 58. |

Watch your burn pot plugging |

If your burn pot fills up with ash you can't get a powerful burn. You won't be getting enough BTUs out of a pound of pellets to heat your house. In the Traeger burn pot, dancing pellets bounce right out of the pot and land in the ash pit below. Lots of BTU loss there. |
